Barckot

Hi,

i want to build a Plex - HTPC/Server, i now which parts i want now except what is the best way to cool this thing it stands right next to the tv so it should be as silent as possible.

Here are the parts so far:

Windows 10
XFX XTR Series 460W ATX 2.31 (Fully modular, 150x86x160mm, Platin certified, passiv)
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT grau DIMM Kit 16GB, DDR4-2400, CL16-16-16
Intel Core i3-6100 (Passmark Score: 5508)
ASRock Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming-ITX/ac (6x SATA 6Gb/s, Mini-ITX, HDMI 2.0, S/PDIF)
Lian Li PC-Q25B
A SSD around 250GB for the System
The remaining SATA Ports will be used for WD REDS

The System will be placed in a cupboard with an open front it should run 24/7, in summer the temperature in the flat can go up to arround 40°C/104°f.

I hope you can help me.

thats what i'd cook up.

3 main points:

- get a low profile cpu cooler that'll be more silent than stock intel, especially on hot days you'll notice the difference

- do you *need* 5 WD reds? because that mobo right there does all the $150 one does, but you'll be stuck to 3 hard drives on top of your SSD, not that either one of those would fall under "as quiet as possible"

- do you need windows on there? from what i can gather tossing linux on this thing would be some quick money saved.

- i heard the noctuas are pretty silent, do you maybe have additional recommendations for 1-2 case fans?
-regarding the mobo the one i picked was the only one with hdmi 2.0 (to watch 4k) that is small.
- i would not need them right now, it was just an idea to have 3 hdds for storage and the other to back up the files (without raid)
- it is not really needed but i did not use any kind of linux since 2005 so i think windows would be the better choice for me without putting a lot of time and work in it.
