Ok so I bought an FX 8320 and after installing the pc turns on but nothing displays on the monitor nor do the lights on the mouse/keyboard light up like normal. I have since put my old cpu back in and everything is working. my specs are

MSI 970a-G46 mobo
FX 4100 CPU
16gb RAM
Radeon 7950 GPU

the BIOS is V2.5 which i believe is compatible with the new CPU. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Oooh this can be worrying. If you are sure its the CPU there is nothing much u can do. You will have to get your warranty back or something if it is brand new. Have you checked to see if the CPU fan is plugged in and the CPU power cable isn't faulty?

The fan has nothing to do with a the cpu besides keeping it cool. And if his other cpu works on the same board then it's clearly a dead cpu and not a cable error.

Try get your money back then. And I have had it in the past where the fan doesn't work and my PC doesn't post. But if you recently got it try to trade it in.

You may have had the first pc ever not posting because the cpu fan is dead.

I would double check the BIOS version and go ahead and update it to the latest version anyway. Happened to a friend where the PC would not boot at all because the BIOS didn't support the CPU he bought without being updated first.

You can also try resetting the CMOS.
