External HDD for Laptop. Help!

So I have my HDD but I want to know the best way to connect it to my laptop. My laptop has eSata and USB 3.0. Is there a way to make the hard drive hot swappable. I would like my system to treat it as if it was a very large flash drive. Also is there a hard drive caddy/docking station/ bay that is very cheap?

I've never bought one, but you could salvage it from another external drive, since they all have 2.5" drive enclosures inside, along with USB to SATA data/power adapters.

When an external drive stops working, it's usually just the adapter that breaks. However, in the event that it's the drive itself, you should be able to salvage the enclosure.
