Hello i have been really considering upgrading my i7 950 to the i7 4790k but i am not sure if the upgrade would be worth it for gaming, i have looked into the 6700k but it's slightly out of mu budget due to needing DDR4 Ram, any advice is welcome.   My current specs are i7 950 Asus Sabertooth x58 Stock 12gb Corsair XMS3 ram EVGA 980 SC ACX Samsung 840 evo 120 gb SSD 1TB WD blue HDD

i7 12700k/Asus Tuf z690/32GB Corsair Dominator RGB 3200MHZ/EVGA 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra/Samsung 980 Pro 1TB/Asus 2540x1440p 165hz Gsync/Acer 2560x1440p G Sync 144hz

neh, my brother-in-law has the i7-950. it works, the only differences will be slightly better IPC and thermals.

do you feel like something is holding you back in gaming?

have you already tried overclocking?

what kind of games do you usually play?

the 4790K by itself is very quick and by a lot more powerful than 950, but depending on games you play it might not provide enough performance diference to justify $400~$500 investment
