A GTX 980 Ti is way overkill for 1080p gaming. The furthest I'd go is an R9 390.

Please tell us your budget and the intended uses for the PC- anything other than gaming? That way we can construct a suitably-balanced list of parts depending on your exact needs, as well as incorporating preferences for specific components and aesthetic choices like colour-schemes.

i5 12600KF | Zotac RTX 4080 Gaming trinity | Team Vulcan 2x16GB DDR4 3600 | ASRock Z690M-ITX/ac | WD Black SN850x 2TB

Cooler Master NR200P v2 | ID Cooling Zoomflow 280 XT | SeaSonic Focus SGX-750 | Thermalright 2x140mm + 2x120mm aRGB

You'd be looking at an i5 since there's really no benefit going with the i7's hyperthreading in gaming. Something like a i5 6600K and a Z170 motherboard with 16GB of RAM and a Cryorig H7 would do.

I recommend going for 1440p with a GTX 980Ti - if you ask me a 980Ti is kinda wasted on 1080p.

Lastly, aim for EVGA's G2/P2 series. Top quality PSUs at a fair price.

Do you need any peripherals, monitors or OS? What's your budget?

thank you for the response and i would like to go with 1440p, all i know is i don't need 4k and for the system i know i want to try to keep it under 2k US. have enough to spend more if need be but would like to keep it some what budget other then the main things such as graphics cards and things of that nature. Such as on parts that are needed and worth it in the long run since i would like to keep the same rig for as long as possible keeping not outdated. As far as monitors i know i want to go with a 144hz gaming or equivalent monitor and for OS i would like to go with the newest one but im open to what people that use windows say to get since im currently on a mac book pro and not fully up to date on what i should be going with in the windows department. If you are looking to go with 1440p 144Hz eventually, to saturate that frame rate (assuming you play the more demanding titles), you'll probably want to go dual 980tis or dual 390s. The 390s are much more cost-effective, but kick out a ton of heat, which I am a bit concerned about in that case. I tried to stay with the black/(green-gold) theme for the build due to the case having green LEDs. (note the GPUs are the Golden editions not the usual red ones from MSI)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello,

Did you bought it already? Can you please tell me how looks temps in this case? I want bought it, but im not sure if it would be good enough for overclocked 6600K and overclocked GTX 970 (you have even way more powerful GPU). Of course air cooling.

sorry for the late reply. Yes, it should be fine to start with one card now and add another down the line. It just depends on the games you play and the settings you play at (especially on demanding titles) how close ou will get to saturating the frame rate. You could always get a G-Sync monitor to smooth it out even further.
