Z170 GPU detection issues

I would honestly just get that warranty working if I were you. With something as intricate as a motherboard it's the best option I see.

Hi

 

I'm building a Skylake gaming pc, and I've got it running, but the ASUS Z170 pro gaming motherboard won't detect my MSI GTX 970.

 

I've tried updating all the motherboard drivers and BIOS, but to no dice.

 

I've tested the GPU in my friend's pc, and it worked.

 

I tried to set he primary GPU to PCIE, but it won't let me, as it hasn't been detected at all.

Space constraints in my case mean I can only put it in one slot.

 

Please help!

I just built a brand new system and I was so worried about getting a board with a bad PCIe slot that I purchased a video card even though I plan on upgrading in a few months when Pascal/Polaris drops. If it isn't detecting it I would go ahead and RMA the board. Even if the card does work in another slot that you can't reach due to space, do you really want to keep a board that you just spent over $100 on that has a bad PCIe slot?

 

EDIT: Okay so maybe it wasn't just my fear of a bad slot that swayed my decision to buy a card. I'm a bit of a hardware whore. :)
