Hello Everyone,

For some unknown reason my main system stalls on the 'motherboard screen' (the one which states how to enter bios) for a full 2 minutes (2:06 to be exact) before booting into windows. As you can properly tell this has become quite annoying when I'm in a rush. The system is one that I got from my dad, since then I've basically replaced every single component except for the motherboard, CPU and DVD drive :). I remember the problem started the day I replaced my graphics card and psu (Yeah I don't know how those things can cause the long boot time. Recently I replaced the boot drive with a samsung 950 evo as I posted a this problem a long time ago and the majority of you said it was being caused by the drive failing. I replaced the boot drive via resetting windows then cloning it onto the ssd via the samsung cloning software. But the problem still exists. TO BE CLEAR, DURING THE 2 MINUTE MOTHERBOARD BOOT SCREEN THE COMPUTER IS COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. I CAN NOT ENTER THE BIOS VIA THIS METHOD. I'm guessing the best course of action is to somehow get into the bios an reset it.

Thankyou

Try resetting the CMOS:

  1. Remove the battery on the MOBO
  2. Unplug the PSU from the wall
  3. Hold the power button for a few seconds
  4. Leave for about 5-10 minutes
  5. Replace battery and power cord

You can also try various combinations of your MOBO's fast boot and Window's fast boot options, to see if that changes anything.

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

Thank for your help

I'm just waiting the 10-15 minutes now. But what do you by the MOBO's fast boot and windows fast boot options? how do you access them?

Enter bios by pressing DEL or F10 key. On my motherboard, its under Memory Configuration

EDIT: you can look it up anywhere in the bios but dont change values on anything if youre unsure

You don't need to wait 10-15mins, it takes about 2 seconds for the circuit to drain. If this happened after a hardware upgrade, you may have damaged the PCB or a circuit. My first point of call would be inspect the PCB and circuits with a magnifying glass. You will need to remove the mobo to do this properly.

I can't check at the moment but if your mobo has duel bios, use the other. Remove absolutely everything from the mobo besides the hdd sata and the power. If the mobo has onboard graphics, remove the GPU.

Try booting post results

Now you need to identify where the problem comes from. I suggest setting your hard drive on the top in the boot priority and connect only the hard drive and see if your system boots without being stuck on the bios screen. If that works connect your GPU.  Continue adding devices and peripherals one by one until you encounter this problem again the device that is causing this is probarly faulty.

The boot drive and 3tb storage is not to blame ;)

Nice now try connecting the GPU if you encounter the problem then I suggest trying the GPU in another PC for checking if it's really broken. BTW how much watts can your power supply deliver? This might be an issue as well.
