So I just built my PC and I'm not very good with Internet stuff so I got my Ethernet cord and plugged it into my computer and the Cat6 in the wall. When I boot up my computer it says I have no internet. Do I need a router or something to plug into the wall and then plug my computer into the router or something

it depends, where does that wall outlet lead to? There must be a router on the end of it somewhere.

A modem at least.

Can you describe your setting?  House?  Dorm room?   Apartment?  Just because an Ethernet port is present doesn't mean that there's anything electrically connected it to it at the other end.  Internet isn't like electricity per se.

It's in my house about 100 feet away and there is a modem into a router I think?

Alright..

You are not giving a lot of information for us to go on - but I can help you find it (maybe).

Who is your ISP - who delivers the internet to your house?

Where the internet comes into the house, you should have a modem or a router - which models are those?

Are you sure that its Ethernet you have in your wall and not just for phone? (if the cable is terminated directly at a phone socket in either end, it is most likely phone and not Ethernet. Ethernet is most commonly terminated in either a RJ45 plug or a patch panel)

If the cable leading to your computer plugged directly into either of those?

Is the port on the modem/router lit when your computer is turned on (or the respective number on it for Ethernet)?

Have you run the install yourself or did a local IT company / cable company / electrician do it for you or did the previous owner do it?
