So i have 2 Laptops (both Toshiba), there a few years old, about 2 or 3 i believe. They both run at Windows 8.1, and now I've been wanting to use them. This was happening before but didn't care as much until now. One of them (which is the older model) doesn't even boot. The toshiba logo and loading screen is working but when its goes to Windows, its just a black screen. And you can tell its on and the screen looks bright. Also, I've tried to go into the bios and put in a Windows 8.1 32 bit disc in and make it boot off the DVD Drive, no luck. I don't know whats wrong :(

The Newer model, The toshiba loading screen works, and it actually boots Windows. BUT, after about 20/30 seconds, its restarts it. Screen goes black for a second, and windows boots up again (loading apps and screen), then every or so 10 seconds, it keeps rebooting. I've also tried the Windows 8.1 disk things, but no luck again. Just went to the windows sign in and continued on doing the same thing. :(

Can someone please help?!?!?! Thanks :)

For the newer model, can you launch it in safe mode? Perhaps it could be a virus that is causing this?

If you do not know how to launch in safe mode, you can watch this video:

The first one sounds like it's got a "black screen" if it does then that computer is screwed, it indicates a motherboard issue which in laptops means it's dead basically. Second one I'm not sure what issue it could be, but if you can boot it into safe mode, and it doesn't crash or reboot then there's just something screwed up you can fix by re-installing.

LAPTOP 1:

First off, check to see if your HDD is detected in the bios, you can enter the bios by hitting "f2" repeatedly on start up or by booting up without the battery and just the ac adapter (DO NOT REMOVE BATTERY WHILE THE MACHINE IS TURNED ON) under hdd on the first info section if it's blank then your hdd is probably completely bust, if you can see the hdd then if possible and if you know what you're doing try test your laptop with a working hdd to confirm the issue. If you can see the Toshiba logo then your motherboard is fine, you wouldn't even get post if it was broken. It sounds like a faulty HDD, if so to fix it you'll just need a new hard drive and a copy of your original recovery image.

LAPTOP 2:

As far as this one goes it sounds like a software issue. Try booting your laptop in "UEFI" boot mode with secure boot turned off. You can find secure boot under the security or boot tab. Make sure you're selected boot device is the ODD by hitting "UP" until the odd is at the top of the list, then hit f10 to boot.

I hope these suggestions help, also if your second laptop ends up working and you somewhat know what you're doing, try installing your 2nd laptop's HDD into your first laptop, if it boots ok then you can be certain it's the hard drive. ***PLEASE keep in mind any tampering or removal of parts will be in violation of any warranty you may have and if you don't know what you're doing you could cause more harm than good***

i would try taking off the battery and running it on the charger only to see if the restarting has any issues with power, if i t is you should just get a new battery.

If its not i would just try to use a different hard drive and see if it boots from it. if that does't work try what @Jaggro said
