because of memory leaks

Firstly memory leaks don't 'just happen' you either open a program and it forgets to (insert pls i forgetz) when you kill it thus still eating up  your ram, oor you raped your ram and it leaked everywhere

How to prevent memory leaks? I have no fucking clue, except try this? open a program, when you finished open task manager and kill the program rather than closing it within the program

This will probably induce memory leaks but I honestly don't know how to stop them, I've never experienced one my self

Well, now you're reading this, I might as well inspire you with a deep quote

If you fall, I'll be there

you cant do much to memory leak except restarting your computer, as an end user of course

perhaps try checking if it really is GTA V, because system compressed file thing in my task manager tends to take up loads of ram for no reason and im not sure whats that `-`

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Do you mean "System and compressed memory"? That's in charge of compressing the RAM used by programs that aren't currently being interacted with. It does other stuff, but this the main function.

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

Remember to quote people if you want them to see your reply!

You don’t seem to understand what memory leaks are, so I’ll explain them for the sake of understanding. Memory leaks are a result of bad programming, where a developer allocated some memory and forgot to free it. You as an end user have no control over when this does (or doesn’t) happen, so if a memory leak is occurring there is little you can do about it.

That said, I doubt GTA V is giving you memory leaks. It’s a very popular video game that was designed by a professional company… unless there’s some low-level mod you’re using that’s the culprit. I wouldn’t know how GTA mods are written so don’t ask me about that.

It's not gta v doing it. I was at desktop before I loaded gta v using 50% of ram

  • 2 weeks later...

After years of searching for a permanent solution - this easy solution seems to have worked for me, give it a try (I will update my post the problem returns):

1. Windows Update > Change Settings > "Never Check for Updates"

2. Start > (type) msconfig > Services > (sort by name) then scroll down to "Windows Update" and uncheck that box > Restart.

It has been more than a week now and my laptop has not suffered from the CPU usage/memory leak.

I have had this laptop for 6 years now (it’s an old Gateway NV58 with a Core2Duo) and I’m convinced that I don’t need Windows 7 updates anymore. However if I learn of a critical vulnerability that requires updates I will run the update service if needed.

My laptop runs quiet and comfortable once again and I’m glad it has a peaceful retirement ahead of it
