Difference between traditional SSD and USB 3 SSD

I'm looking for a fast portable storage solution.  So basically all of the internet says go for one of the USB 3.0 SSDs (I get it, they are small and fast).  Turns out those are incredibly expensive.  Way more expensive than traditional SSDs.  So what is to stop a person from buying a USB 3.0 to SATA connector and attaching a fast SATA SSD to the other end?  Just curious for peoples experience with this/knowledge.

Here's a SATA III Samsung 850 500GB SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147373

(540 / 520 MBps read / write)

Here's a USB 3.0 Samsung 500 GB SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0AJ3X67258

(450 / 450 MBps read / write)

So, at least here, the SATA SSD wins. Do you have a USB 3.0 SSD in mind that's faster than 540 / 520?

Yeah this guy: https://www.amazon.ca/Samsung-Portable-Usb3-0-External-MU-PS250B/dp/B00RWXV8FE

But what's to stop me from connecting a SATA to USB to the 850?
