PSU eletrical cracking sound

before anyone says about me picking a CX psu for a gaming build I originally had just a 4690k and wasn't going to buy a high end GPU but decided to buy a 970 as I gamed more on my pc then my xbox one

 

so my CX600 is making an electrical cracking sound, I instantly shut of my pc, I pulled everything out and jumped the pins on the psu to start it up and it still makes that sound so I know its the psu. its over a year old now so I don't think they still warranty it? but I might be wrong

That crackling sound is called coil whine. I bet you have an EVGA 970!

 

I have (pretty much) the same setup and I believe that it's the 970 that's producing the coil whine, not the PSU. I had a 750Ti before upgrading it to a 970 and there was none. It's that that's causing it and there's no way to prevent it.

u can always check for warranty

 

and get a better psu for an i5 and 970, keep the cx as a spare

its the psu, I pulled the psu out and jumped the pins and it started to make the crackling sound

BTW I have a strix 970
