So recently i bought 3 new case fans for my rig (2x Corsair SP120 and a Corsair HF120) and after installing them and plugging them in they wont start spinning. I can get 2 to spin but as soon as i plug in that 3rd one they wont start. Im guessing it has something to do with the fact that they dont get high enough voltage from the 4pins for them to start. Ive tried fiddling with speedfan, corsair link and even with ai suite 2 but i just cant solve the problem. Ive read about getting splitters but im hoping there is another solution.

Specs:

Asus M5A97

AMD FX4300

Silverstone Strider Essential 600w

Asus Strix Geforce GTX960

2x4gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz

Im using all 3 4pin cha_fan headers. And the cables are 3pin but i heard that shouldnt be a problem

That may be a problem since some motherboards only provide pwm or dc to different headers and the physical 4pins/3pins may not be an accurate indicator as to which is which. Are your bios settings at default? There may be a setting to toggle between pwm and dc for your headers.

My bios settings are not entirely default and i have not found any settings that would toggle that.

Try reverting the settings to default and seeing if that fixes the fan issue.

Did that nothing changed except my cpu cooler is on higher rpms. Also i noticed that the readings on the 12v headers are showing less than 12 is that a problem?

Which headers and what are they showing?

The Cha_fan +12v headers. I dont know if that has anything to do with it

That's fine.

Do 2 fans work when you disconnect either of the 3 fans or just a particular one?

Actually seems like cha_fan1 is the only one that doesnt work. With both cha_fan2 and 3 i can get any two of the fans to work. Does this mean that the mobo is faulty? And can i solve the issue by getting a splitter so i can plug 2 fans into 1 connector?

Try setting cha_fan1 to 100% and seeing if that works. It may have an issue where the fan or speed isn't detected below a certain threshold.

You should be able to control your fans in Fan Xpert.

Nothing changes they all stay still. I cant change specific fan speeds from fan xpert it just shows chassis fan and cpu fan.

Make sure the setting is manual or user as opposed to turbo or some other preset.

I did, but does Q-Fan need to be disabled from bios?

You might be able to turn it off via software in Windows but the setting to turn it off would also be in the bios.

Have you tested another fan in that header?

Yeah i tested all. The fans work on 2 and 3 but not on 1.

The header could just be dead.

Well it gives out some power since the leds are on in the fans. But would it work if i got a y splitter to power 2 of the fans so i have to only use 2 headers?

That might work--hard to tell since the cause of the problem hasn't been identified yet.

Can you get the fan to start up by giving it a spin?
