The price is reflective of the manual effort involved and is aimed at people without the skills/patience/desire to do it themselves. I have a standard set of cablemods cables in my main rig and I'm going to be making my own custom length cables for a new little project I have in the works.

anyone else think that this a bit of a rip off when you can make them yourself at half the price? just check out how much for a custom 24 pin.

actually at less than half price

Personally having made custom cables before the cost associated comes with the time and effort not to mention to costs of tools, however it is worth it to do it yourself if you have the time and like DIY stuff with the plan to do a lot of fully custom cabling.  Also your finger tips will thank you, everything hurts after a day. :(
