Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3: Cannot Install Windows

PorkishPig

Hello,

I recently helped me friend build his new computer on a budget, picking out the parts for him that I thought met his needs. I was comfortable with recommending a selection of components due to past experiences with them. The only component that I am not all that familiar with was the Motherboard, as I had to keep everything fairly inexpensive. Below is the primary list of parts that he has already purchased:

  • Gigabyte AMGA-78LMT-USB3 Micro ATX Motherboard
  • AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 6-Core Processor
  • Sentey® Power Supply 650w 80 Plus Bronze
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti SC 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Card
  • Kingston Digital 120GB SV300S37A SSD

I believe that the problem lies with the motherboard, though I may be wrong. I had him create a bootable media device containing Windows 8.1 (to use his already existing license) on a 16GB USB flash drive. He inserted the flash drive and turned on his computer, booting directly into the flash drive. Then, the Windows logo appeared, and nothing happened past that. I did some Googling and found that the solution was simply to wait it out, that it was not uncommon for the Windows 8.1 installation to hang on the Windows logo. We waited about half an hour, and nothing. I assumed it was an issue with the flash drive, so I had him create another bootable media device on an 8GB USB flash drive and have him keep it running overnight, with the same result. I looked through his BIOS and couldn't find an option to select the OS type, unlike my own motherboard, where "Other OS" and "Windows 8" are selectable. I had him format one of his flash drives and make it into a Windows 10 bootable media device as a last resort, and of course, the same issue occurred. I'm really out of ideas at this point, if anyone could help me out with this that would be great!

Edit: This issue was caused by Channel 0 (DDR3_2, DDR3_4) being faulty.

it is probably your boot media.  I would try:

1) use only the windows 7 usb/dvd download tool to create the boot media

or 2) Try burning the iso to dvd and installing from a dvd drive.

or 3) download the latest Windows 10 iso to usb  and install using your windows 8 key.

I've only tried using the motherboard USB ports, and have attempted the installation with both USB 2.0 and 3.0

I have experienced similar issues also on a Gigabyte motherboard. Try disabling the floppy drive in BIOS, also try installing from DVD. Alternatively, connect the SSD to a different computer and install windows, then swap it over. Not good practice, I know, but that is what I eventually had to do.

I'll try this out when I get the chance, thanks!
