Does it bottleneck?

Go to solution Solved by Thony,

It's only 5400rpm.. That's lowest u can get these days I believe.

So yes that HDD is bottlenecking you a bit.

If u never experienced an SSD then u will hardly notice. But for us SSD users it would be miserable.

Hello guys! This is my first post so I'll try not to make it too long nor too short either.

Well the thing is, I recently bought a new laptop via an online spanish store. It was a good deal for its price (775€ ~ 885$) but I've been since then wondering if the hard drive may (or does actually) get to bottleneck the rest of the pc. It has an Intel Core-i7 4750HQ processor, with 6MB L3 cache, a Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M with 2GB of DDR3 and 8GB DDR3L at 1600MHz running in dual channel.

However, the hard drive is a regular HDD 1TB running at 5400rpm with SataIII (I believe so, the specsheet wasn't very detailed and I really don't know how to look it up).

So that's the question, am I losing potential due to the hard drive's mediocre performance? (in comparison to the other components, I mean)

Thanks beforehand :)

SSD's are faster than SSHD's which are faster than HDD's. So yes, the HDD is bottlenecking your system.

Brah, do you even Java?

Yup HDD is bottle-necking it.

It would seem to be the weakest component.

Just as I thought... xDD Thanks a lot! ^^

So what transfer speed should be the aproppiate for my laptop? When I log into my usual online shop I see hundreds of different SSD's with different speeds (and prices!) and I wonder where's the point where I'm starting to pay more than what I really need for the pc.

I'm not sure if I've made myself clear on this one :P
