Gpu bracket modification

I have a mini tower that came as a pre-built PC by Acer.  The plan is to keep the case and take out the guts and give it a mini atx motherboard. I have done some math that all major components will fit including the psu witch was hard to find.  The only problem is the bracket size of the gpu. The case from top view is 4 in wide it can house the gpu (evga gtx  950sc or msi ) with the cable pressing against the side panels.  The bracket is longer then 4 in.

The plan is to take the bracket off and ask evga if they have a smaller one or cut off a section that isn't vital and sober the two pieces back together forming a shorter bracket. No extension cable for the gpu. I mainly want to keep the PC hidden from others.  This is the case I'm working with. Acer aspire xc 603.  I am not buying a new case or used.
