I hope some of you are experienced Android users, because you won't understand if you aren't.

So I just flashed a custom ROM onto my HTC Desire 816 A5_UL. Everything works fine except WiFi. The option is completely greyed out in settings.

I thought it might be a kernel or firmware problem? CM12 has worked in the past for me. Every other ROM i've tried flashing has no WiFi.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Are you sure that you're getting the right rom?  Sounds like the wifi adapter is of a different model than your rom has drivers for.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Definitely the right ROM. Other people have had the same issue, and this ROM was specifically build for A5_UL.

I've found that some people don't have any issues with WiFi, and others do.

I wonder if your phone is of a different revision, or territory.  Which will affect its wifi ability.

When installing the ROM is there any hiccups or anything that happens?

Everything installs like it should. Phone is hTC_asia version, unlocked. The ROM was built on top of hTC_asia, too. I'm considering trying to S-OFF and then try again? Don't know if S-OFF affects anything though

Then I have to wonder if the ROM isn't finished.  Simply turning the wifi off and on should solve that issue on any modern version of Android.  Additionally, if it detected a wifi adapter then it would give you a troubleshooting option.

Don't worry, it's fixed. It turns out that when I downloaded the ROM, the download was corrupted and some of the WiFi files were broken :/ . I redownloaded it and it worked fine. Thanks for your help though, appreciate it!

I knew it was driver related, but I had assumed that you already checked the download.  haha
