Testing out #!

MG2R

OK, I've just installed Crunchbang on my laptop. Will be testing it out. First impressions:

  • Nice welcoming script
  • Awesome color scheme, UI really suits me
  • Lots of preinstalled software (not a huge fan of that)

What do I need to know about the distro?

There's not a lot to it.

It uses openbox, so you basically right click on the desktop to get to everything.

Thanks, but check out my signature :P

I actually just meant if someone knew some tips 'n' tricks that are specific to the default crunchbang installation. Right now I'm having trouble with adjusting touchpad settings, it won't click when I tap on it... Linux is not a problem, but I never used it a lot with a GUI installed, so I don't really know how to set that up.

Right now, I'm thinking that it might be best to just set up the most basic install of Debian and install a GUI myself, so I know exactly what's on the machine and what is not. Any thoughts on this?

If you prefer the DIY method then more power to you.

If you feel confident with your GNU/Linux skills, take a look at Arch Linux. https://www.archlinux.org/

Have been checking it out, but to be honest: I'm not THAT confident. If I had the time to figure it out, maybe, but with me being in my last year of unversity, having to write my master's thesis, I don't think I will find the time anytime soon :/
