when building a computer what needs to be compatible i want to build one but i want to know what needs to be compatible

Everything needs to be compatible. Use pcpartpicker.com to check compatibility throughout components.

Your cpu needs to match the socket on the motherboard, and your ram type needs to match what the motherboard supports.  Your power supply needs to have all the connectors required by the rest of the components.  If you're unsure, the pc part picker website does an acceptable job of monitoring compatibility while selecting components.
