So, I'm working on a couche-gaming machine, and to make things even easier, or so I hope, I wish to build the receiver for wireless XBox controllers into the case.

I have seen a few people do it, but it's hard to find some of the stuff that I still wish to find out, but maybe someone here knows. So, my first concern is reception, from what I've seen people tend to place the module in the far front, right behind the plastic cover. Obvious of course, but the case I wish to place it in is the Silverstone Raven RVZ02, which also has a plastic panel in front, but I don't know if it can be place so much towards the front so that it is past the metal construction. I fear the Faraday effect here. So, could the receiver be placed inside the case or might it greatly reduce or even completely remove reception for a XBox controller?

Also, to connect it internally (and to decrease the wire's length), I wish to cut the USB connector off and solder a connector on it so it can connect directly to an USB header on the motherboard, this must be a 1 by 4 plug instead of a 2 by 4/5 connector, right? Also, any idea which wires in the cable are used for what? I read colors may vary for the Data-, Data+, 5 Volt and GND cable.

Main rig: Intel i7 6700K @ 4 Ghz with Silverstone Argon AR06 + Noctua NF-A9x14 PWM, Asus Z170I Pro Gaming, 2 x 8 GiB Corsair LPX Red @ 2.133 Mhz, MSI GTX 1080 Founders Edition, 2 x Samsung 850 Evo 500 GB, Corsair SF600, Silverstone Raven RVZ02 (no window version).

For on the road: MSI GE72 2QC Apache with 16 GiB RAM upgrade.

Hey. So to your first concern i only have one personal experiance and that is using a bluetooth dongle on a usb header straight on the motherboard inside my case. Connected to a PS3 controller it seemt good at first but as soon as i was on an angle it started to struggle somewhat. So i would use a cable and get it towards the front somehow.

I am not experianced with the Raven RVZ02, but maybe you can get it close to the led by taking the housing around the dongle apart and perhaps hot glue it in place.

When it comes to wiering. @beach_boy98's option i agree with. Tho if you really want to solder them yourself here are the layouts.

Judge by the missing pin which direction it is. Also cutting up a usb cable will give the same color patterns otherwise google it up :)

Update on how it goes! I am interested, and good luck! :)

EDIT: You could also just try a few different spots inside your case, go around where you want with your controller and see if it works out without too much of a hassle.

Found a bit of info on the Receiver's internals, seems there's a slim antenna integrated into the PCB, now that I know where it is, perhaps I can 'dry-test' it by placing it in the case and run it. The case doesn't have internals yet as I'm waiting for the other parts, but I could hook it to another case, lay it in the RVZ02, and see how the reception will behave, going to try later today.
