Hey guys,

So I have a amd fx 8350, corsair h100I Asus sabertooth 990fx and a 750w psu.

Question is what is a pretty much guaranteed overclock for this CPU and voltage, I know it won't work 100% and it varies from processor to processor but I would love to hit 4.5-4.7, also if there is a tutorial and testing the overclock showing me how it's all done would be great.

Thanks in advanced guys

download AMD Overdrive.

start Automatic Overclocking

let it run until PC crashes

take note of the clock speed you crashed at

Restart PC, set voltage to 1.475v and the clock speed to 100 MHz under the clock speed you crashed at

start dialing the voltage back until you crash/cannot boot.

set voltage to the lowest possible level you can without crashing.

Use AMD overdrives "Stability test" to see if the OC is stable. If you can run the Stability test for 5-10 minutes without crashing, you are stable

Thank you so what amd over drive tells me clock wise would it also say the voltage?

And then input that into the bios?

Do I need to do a prime95 stress test or anything or would that be enough?

Sorry about the questions I tried doing this before and failed haha

Wouldn't use overdrive, personally.

that board and cooling should handle 1.5v pretty fairly depending on ambient and case air flow.

would just ramp the voltage up, start somewhere like 4.5, and keep increasing until it crashes. Then increase voltage, rinse and repeat (while monitoring temps).

Do 4.7GHz 1.45V if it doesn't work try 1.475V. If that doesn't work then do 4.5/1.45. Still doesn't work.. don't even bother :P

no it wont say voltage during OC testing.

My FX 8320 hits 4.7GHz at 1.4625v... so at 1.475v you are SURE to hit 4.7GHz.

IF your chip is able to run at 4.7GHz..... How far you overclock is unique for each chip. Maybe your chip can only hit 4.4GHz, maybe it can do 5GHz, who knows?!....

This is why i say, test the highest OC, set voltage to 1.475v, then work from there.

I own the ASUS 990FX Sabertooth R2.0 myself, that board will easily handle up to 1.5v with air cooling. For over 1.5v, i would advice you to go with custom watercooling for the motherboard VRM's to make sure it doesnt get hurt.

Okay and what should I do to test stability and how long for and is 1.45 volts the average for this clock speed :)

Overdrive is the fastest way to find out where you can set your BIOS clock speed to without fiddling around with the BIOS too much.

I'd do at least 2 hours of Prime95 small FFT or Linpack (Intel Burn Test).

Most should do about 4.6 on that volts.

Okay :) I have a h100I would that be fine?

And so sorry to sound stupid when I load speed fan or any other temp monitoring program I can't find the CPU temps it's always core temp which goes from 6℃ to 20℃ which clearly isn't right or temp 1 or temp2 which are about 6℃ difference

H100i is fine.

AMD has shitty/faulty temp sensors... Don't worry, the Sabertooth board has both VRM protection (throttles CPU) and CPU temp protection (throttles CPU/Shuts down).

I disagree.

If you are a first time overclocker, or not confident in BIOS overclocking, then this is the safest way.

Fucking up when using Overdrive will simply force you to restart the machine. Fucking up the BIOS can require you to clear CMOS using the jumper. Meaning more hassle and more risk.

For those of us who have overclocked stuff before, or dont give a shit, Overdrive is just a waste of time. For those who are starting out, it is a useful tool.

Okay thank you :) I will try the bios way but I'm going to play it very cautious I don't want temps to spike too much anyway :) I don't suppose you know where I need to look for the processor temps and what program thank you again sorry about all the questions

That's very informative and in hw monitor would it go directly under CPU temp or is it under something like temp1?

maybe, maybe not.

It does mess with stability, If your CPU allows it, you can leave it on. If the CPU throws a hissy fit or gets unstable, you can't

Ouch, if it crashes at that low clocks, you got the worst possible overclocking 8350. OR. your motherboard is too weak.

What is the specs of your computer?

It's probably a combination of weak motherboard (4+1phase and a tiny vrm heatsink) and a bad cpu overclocking wise

noooooooo that board is even worse.

what are you; a financial masochist? Save up for a decent high end board or save up for a Ryzen build.
