Hey guys i have been noticing some massive FPS drops when im playing games. When im playing CSGO im only getting 90-120 FPS which is stupidly low for what i have.

Im running a

MSI GTX 970 (Non OC)

Shitty AMD FX-8300

32GB of DDR3 RAM 1600MHZ

Some motherboard i dont know the name of

My old build i had a EVGA GTX 660 SC that i would get around 280 FPS with while running high shaders on CSGO. So the MASSIVE ffps drop that im getting now seem a little bit ridiculous

Edit: I had an I7 3770k and only 8 GB of ram on my old PC

Well, CSGO is basically all cpu bound and runs on 1-2 cores, so your 8300 might not be able to handle more than 90~ fps in CSGO. (your old computer was actually FAR superior for CSGO)

When i first got this PC i was getting the same amount of frames but it has been dwindling since i got it and started playing on it. Im beginning to wonder if the CPU is starting to fail. Im going to be upgrading to a 5820k but that also means new Motherboard, RAM, CPU cooler, and case. So its going to be a while till i get the money so i have to deal with this for now, and im wondering if there is any way to get it a little better at least.

Why did you get rid of your old build? That's a far superior CPU platform, and the likely culprit for your FPS woes. The FX-8300 has abysmal single threaded performance, and CS:GO, being largely CPU bound and Source engine, requires very strong CPU single threaded performance to hit decent framerates.

If the performance used to be higher then I would go through and clean up your system -- deleting all the crap that builds up over time and such.

I would also check your CPU and memory usage to see if anything funny is going on.

Oh, and make sure your cpu is still overclocked (if it ever was), and if it's not overclocked, then you should overclock it.

I have and this PC is barely 2 months old so there isnt anything really on it. I have done both of these things. Im genuinely thinking that its CPU failure

FX8300 chips can easily pull 200+ fps with a reasonable GPU in CSGO.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

There's no reason it should only be hauling 90FPS on CSGO though. My brother's old FX-4100 ran at 3.3 and still managed ~100-120 on a 7850.

Because the mother board died and this PC was free because someone owed me money and payed me with this

I wouldn't expect an FX8300 to only be able to get 90~fps, but a lower FPS doesn't sound like a CPU failure, and there's nothing weird running in the background/weird usages. There could be some weird thing going on with the OS/drivers/gamefiles (and I would suggest trying a fresh install to see if that solves the issue).

An FX8300 is also clocked at 3.3ghz, so in CSGO it would probably yield very similar framerates to a 4100.

I know the 8300's clocked at 3.3GHz, but considering the IPC improvements (yes, they aren't huge, but CSGO makes a much larger deal of it than anything else from what I know), it should at least be reaching 144.

To OP, is overclocking a choice? Even 3.9 would be a marked improvement.

Its just wierd. I just dont understand why i would be going from 250 FPS when i first got this PC to 90 FPS now

Try formatting and doing a fresh install. I know it sucks, but it may alleviate the problem (and if it doesn't then you definitely have a hardware issue).
