Disassembling a gpu without voiding warranty?

Go to solution Solved by Hackentosher,

I think EVGA will do that. As for your card, they probably couldn't guess if you took the card apart then glued the sticker back on with a glue stick or something. I wouldn't advise it, but it's a possibility.

So I want to disassemble my msi 960 so that I can paint the red parts with plastidip (removable if needed). But there is a warranty sticker over one of the screws. Is there a way for me to remove it and then later apply it? Will the warranty still be there, I mean they won't notice anything right?

Also, is there any gpu that does not have a warranty sticker? Like gigabyte because I am thinking of upgrading to one of those

my sapphire card didn't have a sticker over the screws to remove the cooler when I replaced the thermal paste.

I think you'll be fine if you carefully peel it off and reapply after completion of the mod

In practice, as long as you don't cause damage to the appearance or functionality of the card, you can reapply thermal paste. Doing what the OP describes with a Sapphire card would void the warranty.

Why is that? Is the sapphire card different?

You propose to alter the appearance or ''deface'' the card. Which will void the warranty. You could take it off, but legally, the card was void when you intentionally altered the appearance. Though what is technically voiding the warranty could not be proven. So on a sapphire card you would most likely get away with removable cosmetics if you did a propper job.

I thought you specifically meant a sapphire card and it would only void its warranty, not on any other card but now I understand.

I think it varies manufacturer to manufacturer. EVGA seems pretty lenient when it comes to warranty claims. I took my 780 Ti apart to paint the cooler, and a year later it died and EVGA replaced it, even though it still had paint on it.

If you do a good job putting it back together your less likely to have warranty issues. But technically the moment the card comes apart they are allowed to deny you any warranty claims, so its definitely a do at your own risk kind of mod.
