looking for a 27"+ display that will handle casual gaming. (not an avid gamer). something that is 4k capable with any type of connection.I like a higher contrast ratio, and decent PPI. preferably around the $500 mark. I have literally no understanding of Gsync, other than it syncs with your video cards output (framerate), I plan to runn 1440p, or possibly 4k if my system runs well with it.

current build:

6700k OC to 4.554ghz.

coolermaster H212 cooler

gigabyte Z170X UD5

16GB corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz

256GB samsung 950 PRO M.2

running onboard video for now to an old DELL 22" LCD (1080p)

getting in a few weeks:

Gigabyte Gaming G1 980Ti Extreme edition 6GB (possibility of SLI in future.

kinda holding my breath waiting on the Nvidia news/release on their new pascal chips (should make titan/980 even cheaper upon release)

already read up on specs of the new TESLA boards.. sound impressive if it translates to real world GPU performance.

pretty sure HDMI is the only one that can display 4k at 60hz

don't think anything else can display higher than 60hz

recommend going for 1440p

displayport  for 4k @ 60hz  also has hdmi and dvi but only DP i get 60hz  till the next version of DP comes out for the 144hz panels in a few years  i have this monitor and love it http://www.microcenter.com/product/437546/B286HK_28_4K_UHD_Monitor

but if gsync is needed then this one is also very good http://www.microcenter.com/product/441579/XB280HK_28_4k_Ultra_High_Definition_G-Sync_Monitor?ob=1

with 1 980ti its possible but sli is needed if you play any games at decent settings . im running sli on 970's but there in the 980ti range from my massive oc i have 1600mhz on core +400 mem. i did a review of the monitor (i half assed it xD)

There are plenty of connectors that can display 4K over 60Hz.

HDMI 2.0 is the most common [HDMI 1.4a can only do 30Hz @ 3840x2160], but more popular alternatives include stuff like Mini DisplayPort, (some monitors such as Dell's UP2715K actually requires two mDP connectors to fully function)

Regularly sized DisplayPort can do 4K @ 60Hz however it requires DP 1.2, anything below this spec will only be able to deliver 30Hz.

You can also use two dual-link DVI cables to achieve 60Hz at 4K.

VGA is capped at 2048x1536, and also uses an analog signal, so may be interfered with, and the image may appear ghosted.

Your best bet to achieve 4K is either mDP or regular sized DP. (ALWAYS CHECK CABLES BEFORE BUYING)

I recommend an Acer monitor, they do great quality panels at minimal prices. Check them out.

On monitors, DisplayPort is far more common than HDMI 2.0. Every 4K monitor has DisplayPort input, only a handful have HDMI 2.0. VGA also has no defined limits, it is not capped at anything. The FW900 for example is a 2304×1440 monitor which works over VGA.
