Fist time builder help

ht4114

Hello, I've been looking at some used server hardware, for an ultra poor pc build. My budget is no more than $300. I have found some decent deals on ebay, and I need some more imput.

  • Intel S5000PSL SSI EEB Motherboard E11027-102
  • Xeon E5410 ($10)
  • 8x 240-Pin DDR2 533/667 ECC FBDIMM Dual Channel 4gbs
  •  Vamery GTX650Ti Durable CPU 2GB 384Bit GDDR3 PCI-E Graphics Video Card ($60)
  • Western Digital Caviar blue 320 gb ($25)
  • Some off brand 650 watt psu ($20)
  • DIYPC FM08-Blue Black USB 3.0 ATX / Micro ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with 120mm ($20)

(The motherboard, ram and one Xeon e5410, are a combo for $60)

So what I need some advice on is, is this system even compatible, and what performance should I expect at 1080p only?

You won't need a 650w PSU but other than that it isn't a bad $300 build! It's all compatible as well,

I don't know much about server hardware, but it is a dual CPU motherboard and the cpu('s) alone might be holding the 650ti back. also the DDR2 and full combination sounds personally a little slow, you wont get too much out of hdd's either.

I would leave this to someone that knows more but i am really interested in hearing what you will end up with!

Personally I've been trying to find a 1366 motherboard for cheap that supports an intel Xeon E5620 (21.55USD) or two. that would be beast, if you could do this you would also get up to DDR3. but 1366 motherboards are expensive, at least those i've found.

Best of luck! ;)

have you thought about buying a refurbished pc? you could probably get an i3 or i5 for about $200 then add a gpu and psu(if necessary) which could keep you near the $300 budget and get you better performance and less headache of troubleshooting in case something doesn't work.

here are some examples:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100019096%2050010772%204016%20600014651%20600014655%20600014656%20601190702%20601190703%20601190712%204018%204017&IsNodeId=1&Manufactory=10772&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=30

though if you do decide on building from scratch, i have a gtx650 on one of my pc's and on gta V it runs well at 1080, the 650ti is close to 2x better so it should run great , just don't forget to add a cpu oooler and thermal paste for the cpu. also im not sure what off brand is but i would suggest getting and evga or corsair PSU the last thing you want is that off brand PSU frying your components and you have to start over again

Thank you for the responces! I think that I will get an well known brand psu, I dont want to start over with alot of paper weights, like what papapoi said. Also, will the two quad core cpu's be better with modern games than an i3 or i5 and won't they add some "future proofing" to my system?

They're a fake brand, don't get them.
