Adobe Premiere Pro Help!

I'm making a start of a video that uses text to introduce the video, and when I insert text and center it, and then go to add more text the old text pops up in the editor panel and I can't change it? What do I do?

does it use layers? if it does lock the layer that the text is on and then put the other text on a new layer. all of the adobe stuff i use has layers so its just a guess that premiere does.

i can now edit the layer but the original text is still there as well as the new text, so it overlaps :0

if they both need to be on the screen at the same time just use the tool that lets you move stuff to move it where it needs to be, if you want one text to disappear and then the other to appear just make the frame that has the one text end and then thats where you start the frame of the layer with the next text.
