I went for the R9 390X and the unlocked CPU to leave some leeway above the VR ready requirements.

So I'm looking to build a new computer...because of my stupidity. (soda + electronics = not a good time). So I was thinking something along this line for a starting path

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500

Motherboard: ASRock H170A-X1 ATX

RAM:16GB DDR4 G.Skill Ripjaws

Storage: whatever ssd and hdd is on sale

Case: Fractal R4

PSU: depends on the graphics card (but I want fully modular) ^_^

The graphics card is where I'm slightly hesitant because I don't want to mess this up. So what would you lovely people suggest? What would you change with the build?

Also I'm sorry in advance is there is already a post similar to this...please don't hate me.

So the general consensus is grab the 970 or something better. Alright that sounds good. Also...I was reading around and saw something about the skylake cpu's not coming with a stock cooler. Is that real or is it just for the K series or am i'm just going loco in the ol' head and misreading stuff.

Just the K series, since overclocking pretty much requires a cooler upgrade anyway.

The R9 390 is a better buy than a GTX 970 by the way, but yeah otherwise those are effective baseline options.

No budget detected.

Buying now: 980Ti and balls to the wall X99 setup

Buying later: Best Pascal/Polaris card and balls to the wall X99 setup

Wow I forgot the budget...800-1100 sorry about that. I know that kind of limits things with this.

A build like @Castdeath97 above, just cut down to a 390, would make sense for that budget. Or you could look around for a cheaper used card, like a 290 or 780 Ti. The money you saved could then potentially go into an upgrade after Polaris and Pascal arrive.

I might just go with the 390 or maybe even the 290 to save a little for now just because I know i'm not gonna be going for vr for a couple months at least.

Considering LiquidVR is ahead of VR Works I'd say 390 as a minimum

So ultimately something like this or like what @Castdeath97 has. I personally don't overclock so it would be wasted on me :/

In that case just go with a locked CPU and a 390 - no need to OC anything unlike with "K" chips or a 970

Yeah, looks good aside from the PSU, since EVGA's NEX series are mediocre at best. If you're looking for full modularity, go for EVGA's G2 or GS series.

Anything above a GTX 970 is considered to have enough horse power to run VR.

Since you can run a 980 ti on a 550w PSU, the max watts you need is a 550w. Perhaps the EVGA SuperNova G2 ?

If you want your PSU to sound like a jet engine while you're gaming, then sure, go with a 550W.

650 might work, but a PSU with eco mode and 750W would be very quiet compared to a cheap 650W with no eco mode. The Seasonic X-Series is great, but it's a bit pricey. The Evga PSUs should be fine as well, just not the NEX line. G2 maybe; GS if you plan on ever using the fan mount directly behind your PSU (X-Series would work too). You'd probably be better off making a thread just about a PSU choice.

Nothing you can buy now is going to be very VR ready, your best bet would be a 390 most likely for better DX12 support compared to the 970. plus the 390 is already faster than the 970.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I honestly didn't think there would be that much to a psu. So If I wanted something quite and around 650 what do you guys think?
