Hello everyone,

My mum wants all of the family photos and old vhs videos to be in 1 place so I suggested getting a NAS as this would be cheaper than cloud storage for the amount that we want. As well as this, there is a lot of music, movies, and TV shows that are currently on my computer that would be used in the NAS.

I am looking for some suggestions on what NAS to get/build. I am currently using Plex for the stuff that's on my computer, however any NAS with DLNA functionality is fine.

I was considering building a NAS but after playing around on pcpartpicker there are a lot of cheaper prebuilt options available. A couple of prebuilt options I found were Synology and WD Mycloud 2 bay diskless NAS'.

As for hard drives, I am most likely looking for around 3-4TB of space and will probably opt for WD Reds in RAID 1.

Are there any other options for which NAS I should look into?

Thanks in advance

I can vouch for Synology's products. What budget do you have in mind? I can choose the right synology setup if you give me a budget.

Not too sure what the exact budget is I think maybe around $600-700 AUD. I was looking at a Synology DS214Play and 2 WD Red 3TBs that is about $700 in total
