So I'm trying to record Minecraft gameplay. For now, I have a G3258 (I'm getting a i5-4590 soon). Using Quick Sync on OBS, I've gotten decent quality at 1080p30. However, I get stuttering and stuff when I try 1080p60. Now I know I shouldn't be expecting that kind of performance from a G3258, but what bugs me is I'm still getting 90+ FPS in Minecraft; just the video has stuttering, skips, and all kinds of other bad stuff. What's going on and how can I fix this?

MInecraft is more CPU intensive than GPU intensive, is possible that at 30 FPS your CPU is still able to handle the game and the recording, but at 60 fps it just can't keep up with both things.

Encoding at 60 fps takes twice the CPU power that 30 fps does.

Mystery is the source of all true science.

I had this happening to me when I used to record minecraft, I would recommend using DXTORY instead, there are many tutorials online on how to get it for free and watch jackfrags video on how to set it up properly. Should fix your problems straightaway.

But it still runs Minecraft fine? That's the part I'm not understanding.

Are you recording the video on the same drive you are running the game from?   Because that could be another issue, the game tries to read or write at the same time the video is being recorded, and that could cause the skip.

Probably prioritizes MC. An i5 should do much better.

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

Ah, that could be it. I'll try using a second drive.

Yeah, I knew that much. I was just trying to see if the G3258 would work for now.

I installed the Matrox codec but it isn't showing up in Dxtory.
