2 days ago, my computer started acing up. the best way i can describe it, os according to the meter on the desktop (Windows Vista) the 3gb of memory is running at about 95% (it has 3gb of ram) and the processor is running between 40 and 100% ALL of the time, with most of the time running near 80%. and it NEVER qits doing that. after several hours, i shut it off, let it cool down, and restarted it in safe mode with networking. in safe mode, it operates like a normal computer in safe mode.  i am really not terribly interested in repairing it, aas in the next day or two, i am going to order many new parts to upgrade and rebuild it. my plan was to use the power supply that is in it now. its only a couple of years old, and has everything i need for now. if and when i add a graphics card i planned on upgrading to a more powerful power supply, as this one would be pushed to its ragged edge running that. and i know that nothing shortens an electrical components life span better than pushing it to its limit and beyond. anyway, a thought went thru my head about this power supply, if that could be what is making my computer act up. i really do not think that is it, but i dont know enough to be certain. if this power supply is starting to fail, could that make the computer "run wide open"? it does not seem likely, but ??????

a new motherboard, hard drive, memory, and a few other things should be here by Thursday at the latest. the Intel i5 is already sitting on my desk. i can not see putting that much time and effort into it, when i will just rip it apart in a few days. fwiw, i think there is a problem in the software as well. its the most likely source. since i spend so much time online. the chances of picking up a "bug" is pretty high. i just have very little experience with hardware failure. so when i read about a person who experienced a similar problem, and it turned out to be a hard drive issue,  it make me second guess myself.
