Battery dying quickly while gaming is normal. It is okay to charge and play.

Just have the adapter plugged in while gaming so as to avoid battery and performance issues

If anything its actually better for your laptop to play plugged in. Constant charges and discharges can cause wear on a LiPo battery. If it remains full & plugged in you retain the most life in your battery. Also most laptops will bypass the battery when fully charged meaning minimal wear is occuring. And ofcourse some higher powered gaming laptops limit their performance well on battery power due to the power draw of high end components.
