Motherboard issue

I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard at some point in the near future and have ran into a potential issue.

At the moment I am using a Lenovo PC and i want to upgrade the motherboard to allow for further expansion. But, I am unsure if i will need to purchase a copy of windows as the version i currently have may not work with anything other than the Lenovo motherboard.

 

Any answers are appreciated.
