i want to know the pro's and con's of the i3-6100 for gaming

Pros: Amazing single thread performance, great for gaming as gaming only utilizes 2-4 cores. Hyperthreading takes care of the 4 core games.

 

Cons: The 2 extra threads are not as fast as the first 2 making it less powerful than something like an i5 6400.

Pros, won't bottleneck most GPUs and can game.  

 

I'd suggest an i5-4440 or 4460.  But, the i3 is one of the better budget gaming ones.

^ While that is true, keep in mind that the i3-6100 clocks at 3.7GHz vs the i5-6400 clocking at 2.7GHz.

 

Unless you're doing something that really pegs all 4 cores, in many cases the i3 is actually faster.

 

Totally depends on what you're doing.
