Im new to modding and just want to get these two questions out of the way.

1. Is there a certain order i should install my mods in? (example. NPC stuff, towns and cities mods, graphics, lighting, etc).

2. If i am using Expanded Towns And Cities, should i be okay to use mods that alter the appearance of some of the towns?

Any help or advise is appreciated.

Install order doesn't matter as much as the load order, but depending on which mod manager you're using (I recommend Mod Organizer), you may end up with mod that affect the same file, and the one you install last will overwrite the one you install first. MO allow you to further manage these overwrites, but it takes some know-how. I would check out Gopher's tutorial vids on YouTube on how to effectively and safely mod your game.

Also, the fine folks at the r/skyrimmods subreddit are extremely helpful. They have up to date and thorough tutorials on how to mod pretty much anything, and a lot of mod authors frequent the sub.

And lastly, make sure you take care to read the mod description and follow install instructions. Most mods have sections that deal with compatibility with other popular mods, so you can get some info there. Of course, always back up your save file - you can try out any combination of mods, and if you don't like what you see, you can always uninstall and roll back :)
