Hi,

Just recently I have been gaming, working or just browsing the internet on my computer and all of a sudden it just shuts down, and not like windows shuts down, like the whole thing cuts off, not even any blue screen. I thought it could be the power supply (its not the best) but I haven't had any noticeable problems with it previously. I also thought I might be something to do with the PC overheating because when it happens core temp tells me the temperature is around 80 degrees Celsius (sometimes higher, I'm not even sure why it gets this hot), but surely the PC would just thermal throttle or something, I just don't know.

Would be thankful for any help.

Was there any change to the system before this started? New RAM? New CPU? Updates?

The only thing we have to fear is... Stupidity...

The PC won't shut off until it gets into the 95+ Range, I've dealt with that before. You could always try cleaning it out and applying new thermal paste and making sure the CPU cooler is making full contact to rule out overheating.

You know how it is, the cow goes "moo", the dog goes "woof" and the gamer goes "The PvP is unbalanced."

Spoiler

Personal Computer: CPU: i7-4790 Mobo: Asrock Z97 Extreme6 Graphics Card: MSI R9-380  Memory: 16GB (8GB x2) G. Skill Sniper Gaming Series PSU: Apevia Warlock 750W Case: NZXT Phantom 410 Series Storage: 240GB SSD (OS) 3TB HDD (data and such) 500 GB SSD (Movies and Large Data Transfers (I'm constantly moving this one around to other computers))

Its a fx 6300 cpu with stock cooler, 750ti, 8gb ddr3 ram. Its all nearly a year old. I updated to windows 10 around January. It does get quite dusty but I check it often, last time I checked the cpu cooler wasn't that dusty.

What are the parts in your system?  How old are the parts?  when is the last time you cleaned it?  Is it overclocked?  and do you have any pictures?

Any significant changes right before this occurred? Did this start happening in January after you upgraded to windows 10? or here within the last week?

I've only noticed it happening within the last week or so

And I assume no significant changes in the last week? Updates? It is possible your CPU is starting to fade... but before we assume that. Run memtest to check the RAM and if you have the ability test a different CPU.

Well the AMD Chips are notorious for running hot and the stock coolers lack the power to really cool that chip so any excess heat could cause your system to not work.

Has the temps in the room you are working in been going up?

It may be time to get your self a new cooler and maybe a fan or two

So pretty much its because my PC's getting too hot?
