Need Help Removing CPU Cooler

Rotate the cooler left and right til the thermal paste lets go. Don't pull. And those brackets can be a pill, make sure the tabs are out on both sides of the socket.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

 

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

You need to carefully un hook it from the tabs top and bottom. Your board likes like a socket 939 or AM (could be wrong) but there will be a row of 3 tabs top and bottom  (for 939) or single for AM2 .

You need to gently pry the metal clip over the tab that is mounted on the socket .

Thank you both I got it removed.

 

One last question if it's alright.

When I finally get to the socket I see a square on one side but, none of the triangle stuff I keep hearing about.  Should I line up the gold triangle on the new CPU with the square?

I take you you are doing a cpu upgrade , please provide the spec of the CPU (model number etc) and the motherboard model number (normally found near the graphics card slot)

Do you have any thermal paste to hand ready to re instate the cooler with (obviously after cleaning all the dust off of it) ?
