GPU Upgrade for 3 Monitors

forpanos

Hi guys, i want to build a triple monitor setup, but my gpu cant handle 3.. so i have to upgrade.. i currently have a XFX GTX 285 and i want something that has the same power or more, as cheap as possible, and that can support 3 monitors 1080p.. I dont do gaming, but i use after effects and premiere, so my new gpu has to offer me the same or more in terms of performance in these applications.. Any idea ? is it possible to keep my old gpu and put a new one and combine them for better performance?

Sorry if my language is not that good im not native:P

GTX 950

Your PCIE slot is gen 1 and a 950 will run on the slot's 75W power

with the same price of the card you recommended i found the : Asus GeForce GTX750 4GB Ti OC : what do you think of this card ?

-R7 360: This is a low-mid end card, nice price-performance. 115$ + Free Shipping (Amazon)

-GTX 960: Mid end card, better performance. 210$ + Free Shipping (Amazon)

You can also consider lots more, but those, according to your budget, are the best.

PS: R7 370 OR R9 380 are algo really nice choices.

The 950 is significantly better.

I wouldn't step down to the 750Ti unless you really need all that VRAM

thanks guys :) i guess i have to check what vram does now :P

This one might be the best. http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Gaming-Graphics-GV-R938G1-GAMING-4GD/dp/B00ZGF3TUC/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1458745840&sr=1-1&keywords=r9+380

It's someway better than the 960, but remaining at the same price.

Don't get Gigabyte or Asus AMD cards right now they don't have great implementations.

Generally Sapphire is the best. MSI is good too.

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Wow thats overkill.
It might not really be 850W on the +12V rail though

It affects how strong of a GPU you can get before the graphics card gets bottlenecked by its link to the chipset

Like, beyond some point getting a stronger card won't do anything

Your processor can also cause the same issue if its too slow. Your mobo is socket LGA775

allright.. so i may have come to a decision.. i have found : Gigabyte GeForce GTX950 2GB for 160 euros , and Gigabyte GeForce GTX960 4GB Windforce 2X for 210 euros.. which do you think will be better? will the mobo restrict the 960 ?

I don't know really. You definitely get what you pay for with the 960 4GB, but I've not seen anyone test such a new card on PCIE gen 1 slot, let alone a Core 2 era processor.

You could approach it with a 'nothing to lose' mindset and even if the GPU gets bottlenecked, you still have that 4GB of VRAM.

ok i may go for the 960 thanks for your time man
