Power Switch LED

Go to solution Solved by Ookami,

Take apart the front panel. Take out the blue LED then install red one. LED you need to buy is ~3.3V DC to work properly since that much voltage comes from the connector on the mobo. Other than that youll propably need solder iron (and solder) and basics to work with it.

TL:DR?

Ohh and to the "cant find a shop that sells other colors" - there is none. Fractal does it in blue.

Hi folks!

I have been following Linus on YouTube for some time now so i figure I might as well join the forums and become a full on fan/follower. Any way. I ran across an issue during a build and I hoped that some of the night folks here might be able to assist me.

I'm currently working on a build that has a red theme. The motherboard is red, red fans etc. I'm looking forward to using the Fractal Design Define R4 case for the build but the only problem is that the power switch glows blue when powered on. I want to change this to red but i cant find any place that sells power switches that have LED's. I have never run into this before so any assistance would be great.

Do you physically have one?
If it's done with just a blue LED then a straight swap would be easy if you can get it apart and get access to it.

Stuff I try to use;

AMD FX 8350 4.3Ghz, Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 Motherboard, 2x Asus HD6850, 8BG Kingston Hyper X RAM, Hyper X 120Gb SSD, Corsair GS800 PSU, Cooler Master HAF922 Case and my branes.

I do a lot of model making and use LED a lot for lighting and most will have a 3-3.5v voltage, red being a bit more towards the 3.5v line.

I would suggest using a CR2032 battery to work out the polarity of the one you remove as well. Just because the long leg is supposed to be +ve doesn't mean it will be.

You might be able to get away without soldering, though.

Did take apart my R3 because of sh*tty solder of reset button cable. Its better for him to solder the cables. He dont need to check the polarity. Even if he wont do it right then he will just switch the connector on the mobo.

Aye, yes, I know but the point is unless you've used an iron before and wants to lay out the money for one if he can get away with twisting then that's a bonus.

One sharper movement and cables goes off and you need to redo it aka get the front panel off etc etc. Cmon man, solder iron is cheap as f*ck and easy to use not to mention sh*t like this will come in hand in future when he will want to mod the case more or do some other stuff like fixing something.

To post under me:

Wont even do a newer post to meaningless one. Im the type that like to curse and since more than 60-70% of peeps here arent 18+ i wont use full swears.

I'm sorry but isn't Wheaton's Law in effect here?!

If you feel the need or have the requirement to asterisk out your swearwords then you shouldn't be using them.

Thanh you both for your input. I honestly had not idea as to where to start and now I have a much clearer understanding of what i need to do. I thought I would need an entire switch assembly but just replacing the LED on the one I already have is much better. Thanks so much for your help.
