I'm really considering buying an ASUS UX303LA-DS52T with an i5 5200U (2.20 GHz), 8 GB Memory 256 GB SSD,

and the specs later state "dual-core processor"  I'm wondering how much of a difference in performance this may make for light multitasking use (internet/netflix/drawing), if noticeable at all.

For drawing I use open canvas 1.1 or sketchbook.

I'm really wanting to invest in a laptop that will last me as long as possible, but will this factor be noticeable? Thanks.

You mean compared to quad? I mean cores limit threads but it's not directly proportional to power. Dual core should be fine since multiple process can run on a core; my old dual core Pentium can run chrome, minecraft, Rufus, rdp, minipart wizard, ssh, and word at once without any issues. Core power>core count is a general rule.

I've been told so many times to stay away from Pentiums, but I'm wondering if I should save an extra $150 and get a laptop with that processor?

no no no. I use one because it's just kinda what was in budget at the time but I've heard the higher grade Pentiums are okay. I'm just saying dual core is fine for light tasks...single core is shady. By all means splurge on an i-series.

I switched from a one core laptop to two last year and it is so much better . I can do everything I could do before but it was like 1.5 times faster. The 2 cores will help for sure.

Reliable $550 Starter PC (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KGgpZL) *Just waiting for someone to need help with there ram so I can make a downloadmoreram.com joke*

I'm sure this video shows pentiums can be alright...

You do know desktop Pentiums and mobile Pentiums are 2 different ball games right? Mobile Pentiums do not work the same way.
