PC build advice

Hi!

I'm aiming to build new pc. I want to know what you guys think about this set up? What can be improved?

1. Budget

- $1800-$1900

2. Aim

I'm going to use this pc for 3D applications, Photoshop and Octane rendering engine.

3.Monitors

2x Full HD monitors

4.Peripherials

None needed

5.Why are you upgrading?

I'm upgrading because I have 4 years old pc and I want to use new pc for Octane so it renders faster. I need video card with more memory because current one only has 2GB and I use dual monitor set up so about 500mb+ is being used already. I need pc that can handle 2 GPUs.

Here are old pc specs :

-i7 3770k 3.50GHz, DDR3 32gb ram, GTX 680, PSU Thermaltake Smart 630W (80 plus) model SP-630AH2NH.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New pc build:

- i7 5820k 3.3 GHz - https://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80648i75820k

- MOBO MSI X99A SLI PLUS/ 2.1 socekt 2011v3 - https://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-x99asliplus

-  GPU:

    -1x EVGA 980ti SC+ http://www.evga.com/products/Specs/GPU.aspx?pn=3cdfab4c-0eab-44b7-8f32-2a6780a37c4b

-1x GTX 680 from the old PC

- Ram Crucial 16 GB DDR4 2400MHz

- PSU Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 1050W - http://www.thermaltake.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00001717

- HD Seagate 2TB

- CPU cooling - Hydro Series H90 140mm - http://www.corsair.com/en/hydro-series-h90-140mm-high-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler

-Case - Corsair Carbride 300R - http://www.corsair.com/en/carbide-series-300r-compact-pc-gaming-case

PSU and processor is enough to run two GPUs?

Thanks for help!

how urgent is this pc   needed , like what time frame?

Reason i ask is because I heard  that the next gen up from x99 will come out this year and that kinda means better performance  with the chips for faster  rendering.  might pay off to wait and see if its not like urgently needed.  and then  the  boat Im in right now waiting for  the pascals to come out which will replace the GTX980, so I mean if its urgent then Ill list something.

I suggest getting a better quality PSU, rather than one from Thermaltake. 1050W is simply overkill - a EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 is a much better quality PSU while still providing substantial headroom.

Spoiler

1) psu not bad but not the best, i suggest you go for this, its enough to power both your cards and cpu and even have room for overclocking :D

2) as for cpu cooler, if you're going to overclock, go for this, if not, go for an air cooling tower, dont buy single rad AIO, not worth it

3) add an SSD :D

Wow thanks guys for tips!

@Toxicknight79 Octane is fully GPU rendering engine it uses ofc cpu to load up scenes but all the rendering is done in GPU so more memory and cuda cores the better. GTX 980ti has 6gb so its plenty and motherboard has 4 GPU support so I could add new gpu later. When those x99 come out? It also means that they can cost more at start.

@HKZeroFive @Moonzy Yea thanks guys I thought that 1050W would be overkill :) I need quiet fan so CPU doesn't sound like jet turning on engines : D

Also the processor has enought PCI express lanes to run max. 3 graphic cards (for future updates)? i7 5820k has 28 PCi lanes -  http://ark.intel.com/products/82932/Intel-Core-i7-5820K-Processor-15M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

to support 4 nvidia gpu you would want to get the 5930k, because the 5820k can only suport 3

but i suppose you can use 3 nvidia and use one amd on 4x, dont quote me on this and make sure you confirm before purchasing

be quiet silent wings are silent fans, like seriously silent. so silent that i can barely hear them in my case under full load, while when my other fans ramp up my case is like its gonna take off :D

@Moonzy yea I plan to use max 3 cards (for now two). Can't afford 5930k for now.

I forgot to mention that I also will use additional 2x HDD (from the old pc) so in total 3x HDD in this system. That 750W PSU will do the job with those three HDDs and pc specs I mentioned earlier?

HDD consume 9~15W each, no problem ;)
your graphics card and cpu would only use about 500~600W
