core 2 duo e6700 problem

I have a optiplex gx620 with an 0F8096 mobo. I just bought an core 2 duo6700 and I instaled it perfectly , and when I turn on the pc my monitor stays on standby , and nothing happens. Then i turn back at my old processor intel pentium D 945 and all works fine.

On this sitter is says that it suports only Pentium D , Celetron D and Pentium 4  and only 800/533MHz FSB. http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/dell-inc-0f8096-specs/

My chipset is  Intel 945 G .. so I went to http://ark.intel.com/products/27720/Intel-82945G-Memory-Controller and it says that it suports 1066Mhz FSB just like the core 2 duo.

I went to compatible products for my 945 G chipset and core 2 duo e6700 is the last one of the list http://ark.intel.com/products/27720/Intel-82945G-Memory-Controller#@compatibility .

 

I have last update of bios A11, 2006 .

 

Why is not working?

Hey there, if your motherboard doesnt support Core 2 Duo e6700, then probably you will not be able to utilize it

Yeah i had read that before replying but thus i guess you must have noticed the word "probably" but thats what i think!

Ive done some research in the past about the gx620.  You can only upgrade to the conroe core 2 duos that are 65nm.  The e6700 is the newer 45 nm chips and not compatible with the gx 620.  I read where a e6300 would work and maybe a q6600.

i think that maybe the FSB is the problem... so.. an e4700 shoud work

This is what i`m using right now.

Pentium D 945 65nm

945G is compatible with E6700 (and 65nm duals with 1066FSB). Did you update the BIOS before you performed the upgrade?

The GX620 only supports up to the Pentium D 9xx line because once the newer Core series chips hit the market Dell already had new systems coming out such as the 745 therefore not adding new CPU support on older systems since the GX620 had already lived it's shelf life for an aging chipset. The chipset supports it but the bios does not. Your best bet is picking up a 745 motherboard but the downside to that is the system fan will run at full speed due to a temperature sensor not being present in the front panel chassis of the GX620s that was later added on the 745. So if you can also get a 745 case your set
