My current gpu- PNY GeForce GT 730 2GB DDR3

It is a pretty good graphics card but lags every now and then when playing at full 1080p

Is there any other card in this price range that is really good? ($150)

I say the R9 280/380, unless you strictly mean $150 with shipping etc etc?

If you can find a deal on an R9 380, that's your huckleberry. If not, R7 270/270X and 370 would work, as would the GTX 950 or 960 (if you can find one priced that low).

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
