HELP About External GPU Enclosure

if I buy some asus rog laptop that has a 980m gpu does it need a 980 gpu for the enclosure too? or it will work any kind of gpu even amd or what guys?

Any kind within its power limits I believe. Haven't had a clue about dual GPUs.
