help about gpu enclosure

if I buy some asus rog laptop that has a 980m gpu does it need a 980 gpu for the enclosure too? or it will work any kind of gpu even amd or what guys?

Theoretically, any GPU should work. The issue is that there may need to be additional support from the laptop manufacturer to allow the use of an external GPU. On an Alienware with their graphics amplifier, the internal NVIDIA GPU is disabled and only the iGPU and the external GPU are recognized within device manager.
