Question about Model M Keyboards

Looking at a potential model M keyboard someone has for sale locally, tonight. I can't tell from the picture if it really is or not (they are only advertising it as an "IBM keyboard new") and they're only asking $5. If it is a model M, it's a later one (90's) as it has the windows keys between the CTRL and ALT. I don't really care if it's not one of the original 84-91 models as long as it has the buckling spring switches. (and come on, it's $5! lol). It's also brand new, still in the box and wrapped in plastic. 

 

Will check the back for the "model m" and manufacturing date. And of course will check the key switches. ;)

 

My question is; were there any model M's made in the 90's that had the windows keys and still had the buckling spring switches?

No, and I really want to because everyone talks about these like it's the greatest thing ever but from the name and the diagrams I've looked at it seems like it would feel absolutely horrible :P

I have never tried one myself, but I love old rare hardware and if I can grab one of these for next to nothing, I can't pass up the opportunity. I probably won't even use it (unless I like it), but keep it on display as a spare. The clickity noise might drive my wife crazy, lol. :P

Here's a picture of it. Can anyone tell me by looking if it is a model M or not? I'm leaning towards not, based on my research.

Doing some research it seems that model m production stopped in 1998 or 1999. I'd say go try it out, you will realize very quickly if it is not a proper model m.

 

EDIT: also in 1991 IBM stoped manufaturing keyboards, instead having lexmark produce their keyboards. Lexmark continued to make model m s though I do not know what changes, if any they made to the design.
