R9 380 is cheaper and more powerful than a 960

I wouldn't recommend the R9 380 with a weak CPU

If he has an FX 6300 or Athlon 860K it won't be an issue - only FX 4000 can be a problem.

Even with a FX 6300, a overclocked 960 might be better.

Games will still tax the CPU - regardless of GPU

But with a slower CPU the 960 beats the r9 380 doesn't it?

Nope, it doesn't.
The benchmark happens to use a CPU intensive game, what isn't realistic in a real life scenario where you play a greater variety of games.

The 380 is a better card.

I thought crysis 3 was GPU intensive (at least according to my knowledge).
