Can't Access drive connected to Router (DLNA)

I have plugged a external HDD to the back port on my router. I would like to access videos stored on it remotely. I have setup the server, however when I navigate on a PC on the same network I go to:

This PC -> Netgear Media Server -> Browse Folders -> (and my GoFlex drive is listed) -> however the only thing listed in that folder is $RECYCLE.BIN

Why is my media not listed? Do they have to be in the root of the drive?

Have you ever been able to access them or is this a new thing you are trying?

Have you looked in your router to see if there is anything in configuration you need to do? The above is my router's config page... at the moment I have nothing connected.

Just a new thing that I would like to try, so I don't have to use a PC constantly turned on for plex.

I believe I have configured all the router DLNA settings

OK, so when you look in your router config, do you see the drive attached now?

And when you look in your NETWORK on the PC do you see a drive, for instance mine below I do not see a drive when there is none to see.

Then when I connect a drive I see this below

On mine the drives show up called "readyshare"

Ahh, I just thought of something... what model is your router? I believe on some routers the drives have to be formatted as FAT/FAT32, I don't think it will pick up NTFS drives. If you let me know the router model, I will try to find out for you.

Like above, my drive does appear as "Media Server", because my router does not have ready-share, but it is just listed as DLNA.

I have attached a picture showing what my 'router settings' look like.

Also attached is the model no.

So, the 'drive' is listed however there is no contents inside it

There is a thread here  https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Modems-Hardware/Netgear-CG3100D-2-BPAUS/td-p/50828

 on your particular model router.

Have you tried opening a file browser (sorry I'm having a bad memory day today) and typing in

\\name of the share

for instance mine is \\readyshare.. look at the top

Capture3.PNG.e41a58935a25a684d2a3365499c

You could also in your router change the name of it to something a bit easier to deal with... also, try accessing it on your phone/media player/console etc... just to rule out if it's your PC that may have settings disabled for shares.
