Repair keyboard cable

Go to solution Solved by Un4tural,

Finally a post I can help.

First off find where the tear in the cable is. If it's fairly far from connection, I would cut it roughly where the fiddly bit is and then clean up wires solder them together and apply a blob of hot glue, it actually works really well my mouse cable is going strong for over a year with this fix.

Other option, to open it up and solder the cable to the board or if it has connector, chop the cable and resolver it to those wires going to connector as they're surely good, since they don't get any stress. Just put some tape over them so they don't short out and you're good. If you replace the whole cable, get a good quality usb lead, phone charging one probably, appropriate length chop the micro usb connector make sure you solder correct wires together and done.

If you'd like pm me you Skype and I can add you and help you out further if you need.

Hello, I've had my Razer Blackwidow Mac Ed. (cherry mx blues) for a few years and it has served me well. However about a few months ago I took it to a few places and packed it in my bag with all the kinks in the cable like it was new but after a while the connection leading from the keyboard seems to have frayed on the inside. My question is how do I go about repairing it? There's nothing wrong with the switches but every time it does not function I have to keep re-plugging the USB in all the time.

I don't want to get rid of it because it's my first mech keyboard and I got it for a good price of $60 CAD and have had some good memories with it.

Open it up then work from there? Should I split the braided cable? Re solder the frayed connection points?
