So earlier today I was having issues with getting my ram to hit a certain speed and updating the bios fixed it. Two months ago I had trouble making my 4790k hit 4.8ghz and now after the bios update I am hitting it easily. I have never heard of a bios update fixing an overclock.

It's... actually really common that a bios update will affect overclocking, since it's the bios that deals with overclocking in the first place...
